Halo: Campaign Evolved Lands on Game Pass Day One, and on PS5 for the First Time

For 25 years, “Halo on PlayStation” was a punchline, the kind of thing you said to wind up a friend. That era ends July 28. Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of Bungie’s 2001 original, launches that day on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and, for the first time in the series’ history, PlayStation 5. It also arrives on Game Pass on day one, which makes this one of the easier recommendations of the summer for anyone who already subscribes.

The game that started it all, rebuilt

Campaign Evolved is a full remake of the story that launched the entire franchise: Master Chief waking up over a mysterious ringworld, the Covenant, the Flood, the whole foundational arc that defined console shooters for a generation. This is not a resolution bump on an old file. It is a proper rebuild of the 2001 campaign for modern hardware, aimed at both the people who have replayed it a dozen times and the ones who have only ever heard the stories.

The most notable addition is that the remake does not stop at recreating the original. It folds in three brand-new missions, extra chapters slotted into Master Chief’s first adventure. That is a meaningful choice. A straight remake gives veterans nostalgia and nothing new to discover, but three fresh missions mean even players who know the campaign by heart have something to actually play rather than just admire.

Mark the dates. The standard launch is July 28 at 8am PDT worldwide, with July 29 in Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets. If you spring for the Premium or Collector’s Edition, early access opens up to five days sooner, starting July 23. So the true “first playable” moment for the most eager fans is a few days ahead of the main launch.

Remakes live or die on whether they justify their own existence, and Campaign Evolved makes a strong case: the campaign that built the genre, rebuilt for current machines, padded out with three new missions, dropped straight into Game Pass, and opened up to PlayStation and Steam for the first time. Even if you have finished this story before, there has never been a lower-friction way to run it again.
