EA Sports FC 26's Mid-World-Cup Patch Finally Cleans Up Ultimate Team's Menus

EA Sports FC 26 has settled into the steady rhythm every annual sports game reaches a few months after launch, where the big content drops slow down and the updates turn into housekeeping. Update 1.6.4, which went live July 14, is squarely in that lane. On PlayStation it shipped as update 1.29, and while there is no flashy new mode attached, it clears out a set of small frustrations that had been nagging the game’s most active players.

Ultimate Team gets the most attention

As usual, Ultimate Team drew the biggest share of the fixes, and most of them are about making the mode less annoying to move through rather than changing how it plays. The standouts:

• Players now return to the New Releases screen after viewing the Store, Squad Building Challenges, or Objectives from that screen, instead of getting bounced somewhere unexpected.
• The “Swap Duplicated Items” function on Stadium Items no longer risks disconnecting you from Ultimate Team, which was a genuinely bad bug given how often people manage duplicate items.
• An issue that stopped some overlays from showing Player Item images correctly has been resolved.

None of that will trend on social media, but menu friction is exactly the kind of thing that grinds on someone who opens Ultimate Team every single day. The disconnect fix in particular is the sort of quiet correction that saves people a lot of muttered complaints.

A single Career Mode fix

Career Mode players get one item this time, a gameplay presentation fix. EA did not spell out the specifics beyond that, so temper expectations. This is not the update that reworks transfers or overhauls manager mode. It is one targeted correction, and the mode’s larger wish list stays on the shelf for now.

Tournament touch-ups timed to the World Cup

The rest of the patch reads like a game keeping pace with a live event. With the FIFA World Cup pushing into its semifinal stage inside the game’s calendar, EA cleaned up a batch of presentation problems. National anthems were not playing during the International Men’s Tournament, which is now fixed, and a range of crests, text, hair, headshots, tattoos, and kits got updated to stay accurate. There is also a PC-specific note: some RTX 3050 cards were defaulting to the wrong graphics recommendations, and that has been corrected.

That World Cup timing is not an accident. Sports games lean hard into real-world calendars, and a broken anthem or an out-of-date crest sticks out badly when the actual tournament is the thing drawing players back to the mode. Fixing it now, mid-event, is the whole reason these mid-cycle patches exist.

Worth downloading?

There is no reason to avoid it, and a couple of good reasons to grab it. If you live in Ultimate Team, the navigation cleanup and the Swap Duplicated Items fix alone make your daily grind smoother. If you have been following the in-game World Cup, the presentation corrections keep that experience from feeling half-finished. Career Mode devotees get the least here, just the one presentation fix, so this is not the update that changes your long save.

It is a maintenance patch, and it is a fine one. Several months into a yearly release, a clean pass that removes real irritations without introducing new ones is about the best kind of update to hope for.
